Help the animals we rescue!
Dear Friends and Family,
I've pledged to save the lives of Atlanta's animals, and I'd love your support.
Join me in helping the Atlanta Humane Society in its mission to save the lives of homeless animals, and care for them until they find their forever loving families and homes. Sometimes, if they are lucky, the animals get to go home the same day they come into our shelter. Other times it takes longer to find them the purrfect home due to illness or special needs. And there is also the posibility that it is just because a particular dog is a "pitty mix" or that a cat is black.
Tipically, puppies don't last long in our facilities, within a week they are adopted out. However, I clearly remember this super shy, catahoula mix puppy that came into our care last year. His name was Oreo, and he would not come near a person to save his life! He came in with a couple of siblings, that were also shy, and they would cuddle with each other in a corner and look directly into the wall avoiding any human contact. His siblings had the typical colors of a catahoula, very cute indeed, so they got adopted pretty quick. Oreo was all black. He stayed with us for over a month! Volunteers and staff members dedicated a lot of time to try to make him more comfortable around people, to the point where he would get up and try to find us, looking around, but as soon as he saw someone near him, he would retrieve and wait for treats. Fast forward a year later, the family that adopted him came back and decided to adopt another dog from us! They brought Oreo so he could meet his potential brother or sister, and he went home with a brother. He now is a 80-pound, well manered dog that is living a "ruff" life with a loving family and a 4-legged brother from another mother!
We need your help to be able to care for, not only animals like Oreo, but animals that need a leg amputation and need to stay in a foster home for a few days before they can be available for adoption, animals that come to us with some kind of disease and need to be treated before going to their furrever homes, and also the animals that get to go home as soon as they get here, because we still get them up to dates on shots, dewormers, microchips and surgery if they need it!
On behalf of the animals, THANK YOU! And you, you also, hey you in the back too! :)
